Plane Spotting - RAF Valley

Pen-y-Llyn is ideally located close to RAF valley flight line for Runway 019, and runway 013. we are within walking distance of the comonly used observation areas.
The two residential Hawk squadrons contribute to most of the airfield activity. Military aircraft en route to Northern Ireland or military aircraft requiring refuelling after a low level flying sortie in the mountains often call in for a 'top up' at RAF Valley. Typically, you might see Tornado's from Lossiemouth and Marham, American F-15's from Lakenheath, Merlins from Benson and Chinooks from Odiham

These reed-fringed lakes give you the opportunity to see wildfowl all year round. Look out for tufted ducks, pochards, shovelers, gadwalls and grebes which all breed here. And if you come in winter, you'll also see wigeons and goldeneyes.
Spring and early summer are also good times to visit, when the reedbeds come alive with reed and sedge warblers. You might be lucky to catch a glimpse of other reedbed birds like water rails, marsh harriers and Cetti's warblers.
